NEXT MINI-COURSE:
STICK GRAPPLING:
Stick Fighting meets the Ground Game
July 8 - August 26, 2010

Guro Jacy Wright
Brazilian jiu-jitsu meets Filipino stick-fighting
with surprising results in the full-contact game known as Dog Brothers
Martial Arts. Bred for no-rules, full-power and limited protection,
stick grappling has become ultra-efficient at applying the 28"
rattan weapon to submit and
finish the opponent. Whether standing or on the ground, the stick
gives you a mighty lever
which makes all the difference.
In the standing grapple or on the ground, the stick changes
the rules of the clench. Unique techniques have been developed and proven
by full-contact stick fighters including the fang choke, the vampire,
the nut cracker, and many others. Other familiar techniques like the X-choke
and figure-4 become dramatically more effective. The difference between
surviving a street fight and being overwhelmed by a stronger or
superior opponent can easily be defined by your knowledge of the stick
grapple.
This mini-course will teach stick-fighters how to defeat the grappler
with superior stick skills, and teaches grapplers to extend their
craft to the stick. While the material derives from Dog Brothers,
participants will be learning the stick grapple at a measured pace
with control. Focus will be on technique with only limited attention given to
conditioning and grappling basics. For those who are keen, there will
will be optional rolling at end of classes.

UPCOMING MINI-COURSE:
The Pekiti-Tirsia Seguidas
of Espada y Daga (Sword and Knife)

Grand Tuhon Gaje
Espada y daga is one of the most sophisticated and
elegant of the weapons forms of the Pekiti Tirsia System of Kali.
Using both knife and stick/sword simultaneously, it demands great
concentration and subtlety. Strongly influenced by the Spanish who
commonly fought with dagger and rapier, the Filipino approach brings
a sharp edge to the fight as both hands become vectors for attach
and counter-attack.
The Seguidas are specially developed combinations
movement that help students learn, develop and apply the intricate
and effective movements that are unique to knife and stick/sword.
Not only does it make the fighter more deadly, but it also teaches
the student how to use the "third hand" better even when
there is no knife - the use of Espada y Daga technology applies
to empty hand, single stick, and single/double daga as well.
One 1.5 hour class per week, for 8 weeks
Starts Thursday May 6, 2010 -
