Special Programs
Various special programs are offered by maelstrom
Martial Arts. They are open to both regularly training members and
the general public. In most cases, they are offered as 8-week mini-courses
composed of one 1.5 hour weekly class. Cost of each mini-course
varies - call for details.
Class sizes are kept small for optimal learning. There
is a limit and reservations are recommended, especially for the
more popular courses.
NEXT MINI-COURSE:
64 Attacks:
The Doces Methodos of Pekiti-Tirsia System of Kali
A Crash Course in the Pekiti-Tirsia Essentials
 |
The Doces Methodos (12 sub-systems) of Pekiti-Tirsia are
the foundation for the entire system. They were developed
by the founder Conrado Tortal 100 years ago in response to
training in various other styles in the Philippines. Further
refined by the current Grandmaster Leo Gaje, they have been
imbedded in a key training method, using single stick, known
as the 64 Attacks. It features a series of 64 techniques in
a contiuous pattern that illustrates the essential aspects
of the system.
This mini-course will teach the entire method as well as
details for its training and application.
|
The 64 Attacks includes all the basic techniques for
offensa (attacks), contradas (counters), and recontras
(counter-counters). The eight stages in the series illustrate levels
of application and roughly correspond to the advancement of skills
- the more complex and strategic movements appear later in the form,
and are in terms of the earlier stages.
This mini-course is designed for any experience level and requires
no special background or knowledge. Beginners will come away with
a solid basis for stick-fighting and clear insight into the art
of Pekiti-Tirsia kali. Advanced students will learn the nuance and
key developments hidden within the form, as well as how other drills
and exercises tie into it.
A series of 8 Thursday classes at 8pm at maelstrom Martial Arts
starting Feb. 28, 2007.
A maximum of 12 people can sign up. Please call or email
to reserve your place.
