NEXT MINI-COURSE:

Intro to Indonesian Pencak Silat:
Harimau / "Tiger System"
Jan. 21 - Mar. 11, 2010

The Harimau system of pencak silat is typified by low crouching and seated postures, attacks against the legs and lower body, and the use of arms and legs to trip, entangle, and take-down the opponent. Harimau typically fights from a seated or crouched position, choosing to apply the "heavier they are, the harder they fall" approach to overcoming the enemy.

Counters are swift and relentless with devastating follow-ups to keep the attacker down. This system offers the Indonesian solution to the ground fight - fighting from the ground, bringing your opponent down, and finishing with strikes and destructive submissions.

There are many different styles of Harimau (and 100s of systems of pencak silat). The material taught in this mini-course will derive from the blended system of Mande Muda which includes Harimau.

This seminar covers the core elements of Harimau including basic postures and movements, kicks and locks, takedowns and finishes. There will be some training of weapons use such as sarong and kerambit.
